Being an Aunt

Being an aunt is one of the joys of my life. I can remember exactly where I was when I found out each of my nephew's and niece's came in to this world. Or at least when they would be part of our family. Spending time with them is an adventure. Always funny, Always challenging, something tiring, and usually a learning experience. Geoffrey and Alyssa have taught me over the years as I'm sure Emily and Amanuel will do in the future. Just the thought of each of them can bring a smile to my face. There isn't too many things in this life that can do that.

I made a "pact" with myself when I started working part-time that I would spend more time with them. So in October, I took Alyssa for day. If you know anything about Alyssa, you know that day included shopping. As well as lunch at Red Lobster and lots of time just being girls.

Today, I took Geoffrey for the day. Actually, he came over night last night. We watched Elf. My favorite Christmas movie. Today, we went to the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. I don't honestly remember if I've ever been there, which is sad considering he was the President of the United States as well as a pretty amazing man. I wish would could have spent a little more time there, it is a lot to digest. Geoffrey is kind of a history buff, much like his father and grandfather. This was right up his alley.

The special exhibit right now is 100 years of photography from the National Archive. Wow! The older I get, the more things hit me. Looking at an actual picture of the soldiers preparing to fight on Omaha Beach . . . of children of the Great Depression . . . made me think about all this country had been thru. And all we continue to go thru. It made me very happy to be living in the year 2009.

Enough contemplation for now.
